    Theme- Glocal Partnerships for Disability Inclusive Development

    23rd - 24th December, 2022


     

    Sarthak is working extensively to reach PwDs even in the remotest area. In this direction, we have partnered with 450+ NGOs in various parts of India under India Disability Empowerment Alliance (IDEA), Created Digital Solutions that are extremely useful & benefitting 25,000+ PwDs PAN India, nourishing Sarthak's Global presence through Webinars & E-Meet ups connecting representatives of 60+ organizations from 8+ countries and our dream project Global Resource Centre (GRC), First-of-its-kind accessible hub addressing all disability needs from Childhood to Livelihood and advancing years, all from one source - the construction has begun and we can't wait to start empowering PwDs from the GRC. In essence, Sarthak is working for Disability Inclusive development through both Global and Local Partnerships.

    This year, the theme for our 9th National Conference on Disability is – Glocal Partnerships for Disability Inclusive Development, December 23rd & 24th, 2022 at AICTE, New Delhi. The event will be inaugurated by Hon’ble Union cabinet Minister - Dr. Virendra Kumar Minister of Social justice and Empowerment, Government of India.

     

    About National Conference on Disability (NCD)

    We have been hosting the NCDs since 2014, Our previous conferences have been inaugurated in the esteemed presence of India's former President Late Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Cabinet Minister Shri Thawar Chand Gehlot, Minister of Social Justice and empowerment, and Shri Sanjiv Mehta, the Chairman of Hindustan Unilever Limited as Chief Guests. Last year, we hosted our 8th National Conference on 17th and 18th December in a virtual mode where we launched Sarthak and NAAI Annual reports and an exclusive job portal for People with Disabilities RozgarSarathi in the presence of Hon'ble Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways- Shri Nitin Gadkari ji as the Chief Guest.

    We have witnessed the presence of 800+ Policymakers, Planners, innovators, and implementers, and 6000+ participants through our conferences. This time of the year is awaited by all to meet, connect, share and inspire.
    We come up with a new theme for the conference every year to have a comprehensive understanding of the disability sector and discuss achievements so far. All of our NCD proceedings are available on our website.

    8th National Conference on Disability

    Theme:- Digital Divyang - Enabled and Empowered

    Technology is an enabler when used to eliminate barriers, rapid digitization of the world needs to be made accessible for all and be used to make the world accessible.The meaningfulness of the word ‘divyang’- signifies a shift where we are treated them with empathy and respect. Need to go a mile deep- not a mile wide. Once systems have been created then we can go a mile wide as well and create a 360-degree development cycle that is digitized.     7th National Conference on Disability

    Theme:- Digital Inclusion - Pathway to empowerment of People with disabilities

    Eleven-panel deliberations covered plans for bridging the physical, attitudinal and financial barriers in the line of inclusion of People with Disability through digital mediums were extensively discussed, to further accelerate the pace of inclusion-led empowerment of Divyangajan. More involvement of Corporate and PSUs through CSR needed, to support relief and support to PwDs severely impacted by the pandemic, including safety kits, rations, and a dedicated helpline number for them. There is a need for setting aside special budget for PwDs during Covid. Covid-19 has provided new opportunities to PwDs through digitization such as – online learning support, higher engagement of beneficiaries owing to facility of learning from the comfort of their homes, active and frequent engagement with parents.     6th National Conference on Disability

    Theme:- Voice, Choice & Control - Pathway to Disability Inclusive Development

    On average, 1 in every 7 person is disabled and this ratio seems to be increased in coming future if no proper measures are taken. Foremost step towards mainstreaming and inclusion is correct estimation of population of PwDs in the next census. There is no one size fits all approach to address this cross-cutting issue and Diversity Assessment Framework (DAF – Measuring the Right Number and Right Problem) could be an efficient tool to extend support as required. Sarthak extended its token of appreciation to All India Cricket Association of Physically Challenged by in the form of a cheque of 31,000 INR.     Theme:- Act to Empower

    Sarthak Educational Trust is actively engaged in inclusion and empowerment of PwDs through its work in the areas of Early Intervention, Inclusive Education, Skill Development and screening talents and providing a platform by organizing regional and national Abilympics. Sustainable development of PwDs calls for significant focus on attitudinal, societal, technological, and accessibility concerns as posited in PwD Act, 2016.     Theme:- Inclusion to Empowerment

    At the 3rd National Conference on Disability, interactive Panel discussions were infused with ideas and approaches to create an Inclusive environment to attain real empowerment of PwDs with varied perspectives of PwDs, Government, Corporate, Civil Societies, and Media Houses. Representatives of different groups presented their views and opinions on Disability with great panache through captivating presentations, stories of progression and achievements, and videos to support their viewpoint that Inclusion is the Action: Empowerment is the Outcome.     Theme:- Need for Sensitization for economic and social inclusion of PwDs

    Enlightening Speeches were given by dignitaries including the Secretary of Empowerment of PWDs, GOI, Shri Lok Verma, Minister, Dept. of Women and Child Development, Govt. of Delhi, Shri Sandeep Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary, Govt. of Haryana, Shri Sunil Kumar Gulati and Executive Vice President, Vodafone India Ltd, Shri Sandeep Bhargava.     1th National Conference on Disability

    Theme:- Vision for India

    The first National conference was inaugurated on September 12th, 2014, by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Former President of India.Major points discussed were - People with Disabilities are ultimately people and they should be allowed to fly like a bird in the free air. The motive should be “Inclusion without discrimination”. They are not people with disability, They are people with special abilities.
