Parmanand: A Young Man Who Kept Moving Forward

Parmanand is from Begusarai, Bihar. He was born with haemophilia, a rare medical condition where the blood doesn’t clot properly. This means that even a small injury can lead to heavy bleeding, swelling in the joints, or serious pain.

There is no complete cure for haemophilia, and people who have it often need regular treatment, which can be very expensive. In villages and small towns, where hospitals are far and treatment is costly, living with haemophilia can be very difficult.

For Parmanand, simple things like walking or climbing stairs could cause pain. Playing with other children or traveling to school was risky. Every fall or bump could lead to swelling or internal bleeding.

His family lived with limited means—his father worked as a daily wage labourer, and his mother looked after the house. With two younger sisters, the family could barely afford medical care, let alone the high cost of injections and hospital visits needed for haemophilia.

    Still, Parmanand never gave up.

Even when school became difficult, he continued to study through open learning. He passed his 12th standard and enrolled in graduation, while also preparing for government job exams. His goal was clear:
To support his family and help others like him who suffer in silence.

His journey took a hopeful turn when he went to a job fair by Sarthak Educational Trust in Patna. There, he learned about their free training program for youth with disabilities.

At Sarthak, everything began to change.

He gained job skills, learned how to speak confidently, and most importantly, found people who believed in him. For the first time, he didn’t feel alone in his struggles.

Inspired by what he learned, Parmanand started a small tuition center in his village. With just a whiteboard and a few floor mats, he began teaching children—some who paid a little, and many who came for free.

He says, “When I was younger, education felt like a far dream. I want to make it a reality for others.”

His classes slowly grew. Children came with curiosity. Parents came with hope. And Parmanand, in his simple classroom, became a guide and a friend to many.

Today, he continues to juggle his college studies, government job exam prep, and tuition center. He works hard, not just for himself, but for every child who wants to learn but can’t afford to.

He dreams of becoming a government school teacher—so he can reach more children and build a world where no one is left behind due to illness or poverty.

Parmanand’s story shows us that even with pain, poverty, and problems—you can still rise. And when you do, you can bring others along with you.
