Acceptance is the first step in the journey to beat disability, and Anusha’s story is a fine example of how self-acceptance, along with family support, can lead to a normal and happy life despite challenges.
Anusha K, a well-educated girl from Malappuram, Kerala, was born with a hearing impairment. She completed her B.Sc. in Computer Science and lives with her parents and siblings.
She shared that life was not easy with her disability, but her family’s support gave her confidence and helped her embrace her impairment. During her school years, she struggled to travel or communicate effectively, often relying on her father to accompany her everywhere. One day, determined to push herself beyond her comfort zone, Anusha gathered the courage to travel alone. Though it was difficult at first, she soon learned to manage independently. She realized that difficulties come to everyone, whether due to disability or other challenges, and what matters is how one chooses to face them.
After graduation, Anusha began seeking employment, but the COVID-19 pandemic made her search more difficult. At this time, Sarthak Educational Trust reached out to her with information about its training and employment opportunities for skilled PwDs. She registered and began training, where she learned Soft Skills, Basic English, and computer skills. Over three months, she noticed a significant improvement in her confidence and communication.
Anusha also received sector-specific training in IT as a Data Entry Operator. Soon after completing the program, she was hired by Jal Jeevan Mission (Kerala Water Authority) as a Data Entry Operator.
She gratefully credits Sarthak and HDFC Bank CSR for enabling this positive shift in her life, giving her both independence and a chance to fly high. Reflecting on her journey, she said, 'It doesn’t matter how slowly you move as long as you don’t stop.'
Anusha’s story is a shining reminder that acceptance, perseverance, and the right support can turn challenges into stepping stones toward success.
