Uttam, VI candidate hails from a decent family background. His father owns a small dairy shop and earns meagre amount. When he was born many of his relatives told his parents not raise a blind child and send him to a shelter home. But his father was determined not to do so. He invested in Uttam’s education and as during his days there wasn’t any blind school in Jaipur his father send him to Ganganagar for further studies.
After completing his studies he was still waiting for job. He had registered himself in employment office from where his data was retrieved. Initial days were really challenging for him as he lacked confidence and focus. He had knowledge but lacked implementation skills. Through life skills training his foundation was build and sharpened his computer skills too.
He was very much interested in computers so through rigorous activity based training he was trained in Customer Relationship Management.
He landed up in a job in S.S. Infocom as a telly caller and has been working successfully.
As we went to meet him in S.S. Infocom and he was busy with his calling. As we reached his desk he greeted us warmly . He shared his thought with us:
“I am excited with the work environment and very happy that I can live my life with diginity.”
Naveen watched his elder sister with envy, running outside with other children from the safety of his kitchen window, by his mother’s side. He was orthopedically handicapped, making normal activity difficult. His parentslearned of his disability when he was just one month old and feared for his future, wondering how they would be able to support the family without their sons financial support. As Naveen grew older he became aware of his condition and how it could negatively affect his life and family. Feeling like a burden to the people around him, his confidence decreased and was desperate to find a solution to improve his situation. He applied for many jobs but faced multiple rejectionsdue to his disability.
Discouraged but determined, Naveen did not lose hope. Taking courage from his friends he pressed on hoping to encounter support from the job market. This is when Naveen found Sarthak. He learnt about the three-month training program andenrolled with the hope of finally finding work to help support his family. The soft skills classes helped Naveen gain confidence in the areas he needed to improve upon the most. Learning English language, communication, computer skills and approaches to securing employability. Gradually he began to feel positive about applying for work once again.
Naveen showed such improvement by the end of his studiesthat he was shortlisted bymultiple companies, including Lifestyle, V-Mart and V-Max. In the end he was hired by V-Martto work as a salesman. We caught up with Naveen later to find out that he is very happy in his new role. From feeling powerless to empowered he now wakes up in the morningwith a smile on his face, feeling worthwhile and positive. He is finally able to financially assist his family. He shared with us that he has even requested his employers to keep him in mind for promotions with the hope that he can progress and continue to develop his career.
This young man’s new found confidence and wider ambition is a notable achievement that both us at Sarthak and his family are highly proud of.
Studying at university, partying the night away or spending care-free time with friends and family. That is what most twenty-three year olds are doing, but for our recent graduateHareram it is different. Born deaf, Hareram could not partake in the normal activities of his twenty-something peers. However, Hareram’s story has taught us that ill hearingdoes not have to be a hindrance on success or making a valuable contribution to the people around us. Hareram desperately wanted to support his mother in caring for his family after his father passed away. He wanted her to feel proud of him and to know that he too could provide invaluable support for his family despite his condition. He wondered how he could ever do it alone but with Sarthak’s help Hareram pushed the boundaries of his own capabilities.
Arriving to class shy and discouraged from his previous school experiences,Hareram was hesitant, but persistent. His studies granted him the soft skills training he needed to branch out and fly. After three months of hard work he was confident with his new found abilities in English language and computer skills.
Additionally and now armed with helpful employability tactics, he was soon hired by Cafeteria & Co. We later caught up with Hareram to hear that his supervisor is very pleased with his performance.
“We have never hired a disabled person before as we feared they would not be able to keep up with their able-bodied colleagues however, Hareram has proven us wrong. He is cheerful and attentive in his work and has surely made us think twice about hiring disabled persons in future. We are very happy to have him!”
Rinku Soni was a humble man from Uttar Pradesh whom dreamed of moving to the big city to becomea successful business man. He wanted to earn himself a respectful living and support his family at home.He seized his day in 2008 when he made the move to New Delhi to seekthe opportunities he desired. However, Rinku did not only face the expected challenges of anyone moving to a new city to find work. He was partially blind, which set him back behind many of his competing candidates. In many cases employers turned him away without even speaking to him, solely based on what they saw. A less abled-person. Rinku was devastated. Alone in an unfamiliar place and worried for the future, he did not know where to turn. Then one evening whilst telling a friend about his troubles he was introduced to Sarthak and their three month, soft skill course for people struggling with disability. Rinku felt like he had landed on a gold mine. He saw his chance to turn his situation around.
He came to Sarthak with a new vision of hope for his future, helping him convey a confident personality to his fellow pupils and teachers. He began to excel in is lessons as he no longer felt alone in the city, making new friends that understood the challenges he was facing. He organised study groups so that he and his new friends could develop their classroom lessons together, learning English language, communication and computer skills. The experience at Sarthak granted him the tools he lacked to set him apart from his competitors.
After three months at the centre he was equipped and ready for his first interview. Landing a position with Max Hospital in Vaishali, he has now worked with them for six years as a patient care coordinator. Rinku kindly shared with us his feelings after leaving Sarthak;
“I love my work. I cannot stress enough how grateful I am to Sarthak and their support. I still keep in touch with my friends I met there. It is such a joy to share our success stories with each other after graduating from the program. I am blessed to have found work that not only supplies me with the income I had dreamt of but it is also rewarding and meaningful to be caring for others in need”
Upon completing his graduation from Delhi University, Akash was in search of a job. Hailing from Delhi, he had ample amount of options to apply and live a independent life, like any other youngster. But due to the lack of confidence, every now and then, he faced rejections, and this demotivated him. He wanted to stand independent and help his family financially. Absence of fingers on his right hand, he never considered it as his limitation, but somehow the low confidence level became the obstacle in his journey towards independence.
And one fine day, when he got to know about Sarthak Educational Trust from one of our mobilisers in New Delhi, he readily registered himself at the South Delhi situated center. With sheer determination he passed all the assessment tests in the 3 Months Training Program and got back the long lost confidence, once again.
His hardwork was evident during his training classes, and upon completing the course, Akash was recruited internally by Sarthak, as a Help Desk Executive for Sarthak Educational Trust, Delhi Center.
Needless to say, he is doing his job with sheer zeal and enthusiasm and never fails to inspire those candidates who come to register with us for training and employment support.
